Kids’ Chance of California, the nonprofit organization devoted to funding need-based college scholarships for children of workers killed or seriously injured on the job, surprised Boxer & Gerson Partner Dennis Popalardo at the firm’s regular calendar meeting last week by popping in to present him with a plaque honoring his eight years of service as a founding member of its board of directors. Board President Maria Henderson did the honors (pictured).

Popalardo ended his board tenure earlier this year, though he continues to serve the organization as a member of its scholarship committee.

Boxer & Gerson also continues to support Kids’ Chance of California as a founding sponsor, an association that began when the organization was founded in 2012. Kids’ Chance now operates in 47 states, each one an independent entity under the Kids’ Chance banner. Georgia was the first, in 1989.

“It’s always nice to be recognized, but in truth, it’s been my honor to serve on the board and help Kids’ Chance in any other way I could,” said Popalardo. “It’s a great organization doing important work to open doors for kids and their families when it may seem that their world has fallen apart. Kids’ Chance lets them know there are caring people behind them to help pick up the pieces. I’m looking forward to continuing my personal involvement, and am proud that my firm is doing the same.”
