COVID-19: TO LEARN ABOUT URGENT UPDATES TO WORKERS’ COMPENSATION RIGHTS, CLICK HERE.
“Update on Workers’ Compensation” was the topic that Boxer & Gerson Certified Workers’ Compensation Specialists Dennis Popalardo and Ralph Mann addressed at a meeting of the Teamsters Cannery Council in Reno, Nevada on October 23. The council represents some 15,000 workers in the food processing industry throughout Northern California.
Popalardo and Mann walked the audience of union officers and representatives through a brief Powerpoint presentation summarizing recent changes in workers’ comp law. The main areas that have been impacted by legislation since early 2014 include a cap on temporary disabiity benefits, changes in medical treatment and utilzation review, the implications of medical treatment denial, the appeals process after such denial, new guidelines for determining permanent disability, and changes in benefits when workers are deemed “unable to return to work.”
With new legislation regularly in play and court cases further shaping application of the law, it is critical that union shops and workers do everything possible to keep abreast of workers’ comp law. Boxer & Gerson attorneys regularly present at union gatherings such as the Teamster Cannery Council’s to serve just that purpose.
