automobile accidents

Each year in the United States, far too many people are injured in automobile accidents. In 2005 alone, that number reached a reported 2.7 million injury cases and 43,200 automobile accident deaths. This means that an average of 118 people die each day as a result of automobile accidents.

Accidents can occur for a number of reasons. Driver fatigue, distraction due to cell phone usage, attention given to children in the car or other passengers, and driver negligence are only a few of the contributors to the many accidents that take place on our roads. When you add the problems of defective vehicles, vehicle instability, alcohol or drug use, or poor driving conditions due to substandard roadways or weather, the possibility of auto accidents only increase. Additionally, the exact cause of an auto accident is not always obvious. A minor auto accident can turn into a serious accident if the automobile is defective in design, or contains defective seatbelts, a defective gas tank, or is a defective automobile in some other respect.

Serious injuries can occur as a result of automobile accidents, including serious fractures, severe burns, brain injuries, back injuries, neck injuries and spinal cord injuries. The extent of and cost to recover from these injuries is not always clear until some time after the car accident occurs. Because of the long-term expenses that accompany many of these types of injuries, insurance companies are often in a hurry to settle your claim, and sometimes their settlement only covers a fraction of the costs required for your full recovery. No matter what causes an accident, the consequences can be devastating.

When you or a family member is involved in an automobile accident, many important questions arise regarding what you should do to prevent a potentially devastating loss. Who pays for the medical bills? Who pays for the car repairs and rental expenses? Should I get a medical checkup after the accident? How do I know if the other driver has insurance or whether I have enough insurance?

It is important to quickly hire an experienced auto accident lawyer. Evidence such as road marking, skid marks, and wrecked vehicles can be lost. By hiring an attorney, this evidence can be gathered and preserved to help prove and win your case. We have significant experience in the handling of auto accidents and have the resources to effectively represent clients wherever they may be located. If you or a family member have been involved in a car accident and need the help of a qualified personal injury attorney, do not accept any settlement from an insurance company without first consulting the attorneys at Boxer & Gerson.
