gender discrimination
Sex or gender discrimination means treating individuals differently in their employment because of their sex. Although studies have shown that gaps in wages and employment opportunities between women and men have narrowed somewhat over time, disparities remain. In 2006, the U.S. Equal Employment Opportunity Commission received 23,247 complaints regarding discrimination based on sex. Sex discrimination can take many forms, such as:
- Discrimination in hiring and recruitment
- Discrimination in compensation, benefits and other terms and conditions of employment
- Refusal to promote or "glass ceiling" discrimination
- Sexual harassment
- Pregnancy discrimination
Discrimination on the basis of sex is prohibited by both state and federal law. Boxer & Gerson’s employment law practice group has extensive experience in bringing suits to vindicate the rights of employees to be free from discrimination based on sex.
