Biography:
Throughout his distinguished career, Stewart Boxer has been a
champion for workers of all types. As a founding partner of Boxer &
Gerson, LLP, he has sought to provide high quality legal services to
workers who otherwise might not have access to proper representation.
Stewart’s understanding of the issues facing workers came at
an early age, when his father, a Teamster, passed away from a heart
attack and left his mother and three young children without any
benefits. Since beginning his legal practice, he has devoted his career
to helping workers and their families receive the fullest possible
compensation for injuries sustained on the job.
He has been a certified specialist in workers’ compensation
since 1973, and in 2006 and 2007 was recognized as one of Northern
California’s Super Lawyers in Workers’ Compensation by San Francisco Magazine.
He has lectured on numerous occasions to attorneys and local labor
unions on the subject of workers’ comp, and has served on the Board of
Directors of the California Applicants’ Attorneys Association, a
statewide organization of attorneys representing injured workers.
Stewart began his legal career in 1965 as a law clerk for Justice Byrl
R. Salsman of the California Court of Appeals. After starting his
practice at a labor law firm, Stewart entered the field of workers’
comp because he enjoyed dealing with individual clients.
He received his law degree from Fordham University Law School
and was case notes editor for the Fordham Law Review. He has a Bachelor
of Arts in Political Science from Brooklyn College. When not practicing
law, he enjoys reading, watching movies and playing golf. He is married
to United States Senator Barbara Boxer.
