Managing Partner of Boxer & Gerson LLP, John Harrigan represents injured workers before the Workers’ Compensation Appeals Board (WCAB) as well as claimants before the Social Security Administration’s Office of Disability Adjudication and Review seeking Title II disability benefits.
John has been a Certified Specialist in Workers’ Compensation by the State Bar of California since 1992 and has been with Boxer & Gerson LLP since 1987. Prior to that date, he practiced with Harrigan & Lueders in Berkeley.
Recognized by his peers as a Northern California Super Lawyer by San Francisco Magazine since 2005, John has also been recognized by the Best Lawyers in America. As Managing Partner, John is proud of the firm’s recent designation by US News and World Report as one of its’ Best Law Firms in the US for 2010 – First Tier ranking. In years past, John has sat on the Alameda County Bar Association Court Appointed Attorney Committee and also served as an Arbitrator for the ACBA.
John has lectured extensively to union locals and organizations over the years – including the Teamsters, Machinists, UFCW, IBEW, SEIU, AFSCME, Plumbers and Pipefitters, Carpenters, Iron Workers, Painters, UAW, CTA among many – as well as participating in panels with other stakeholders such as insurance groups, treating and evaluating doctors, and the California Applicants’ Attorneys Association.
In addition to his professional experience, John was a co-founder of the Northern California Fragile X Association, serves on the Board of Trustees of the National Fragile X Foundation, and is a past Board Member and President of the Board of the NFXF. He has lobbied in Washington for many years on behalf of increased medical research funding for Fragile X – the leading inherited genetic cause of development disability – and currently serves on the National Advisory Board for an NIH grant at UC Davis Medical Center in Sacramento.
